Arnolkis Turro
- Cuba
Raised in a rural area of Cuba, the artwork of Arnolkis Turro reflects his immediate environment and has narrative qualities. Expect to discover rolling hills, farmers, horses, rivers in the painted stories that emerge from his personal experiences. Turro’s palette is colorful and earthly, and he creates abstract compositions that remind us of lighting through stained glass. Turro says of his work that he attempts to express the power of positive thought through the use of color and various combinations of materials: “I hope that the body of my artwork celebrates much of Latin America, raw and natural, honest and beautiful.”
Arnolkis Turro studied at the Vocational School of Art ‘’Regino Eladio Boti’’ in Guantánamo as well as the National School of Art in Havana, Cuba. He also took up Las Positas College Art Residency in Livermore CA, USA and The Vermont Studio Center in Vermont, USA and was recently selected for an Art Residency at the University of Udaipur-Rajasthan, India. Turro belongs to the fertile generation of Cuban Contemporary Art, which includes names such as Yoan Capote, Los Carpinteros, Carlos Garaicoa, Aimeé García (also presented by Black Pony Gallery) and El Kcho, among others. He has exhibited in several countries including Cuba, Germany and the USA.
